Objectives

On completion of this four-day clinically focused ultrasound program, learners will:
  • Use ultrasound system controls to optimise imaging for accurate diagnosis
  • Demonstrate proficiency in probe manipulation to efficiently acquire diagnostic images
  • Describe the limitations and clinical integration of the following ultrasound examinations:
    • Transabdominal and transvaginal pelvic assessment
    • 1st trimester
    • 2nd trimester
    • 3rd trimester
  • Use a systematic approach to conduct ultrasound assessment of
    1. Pelvis using transabdominal and transvaginal approach
    2. Early pregnancy for miscarriage, confirm intrauterine positioning or ectopic location and cause for pain and bleeding
    3. Fetal well-being
    4. Fetal growth in third trimester
    5. Multiple pregnancy
  • Develop basic practical proficiency in transvaginal scanning

Approved by ACRRM for the Rural Procedural Grants Program – GPs can receive $2000 per day for a maximum of 10 days of training per financial year, GPs providing hospital based emergency services can receive up to three days of eligible training per financial year.
