Objectives
On completion of this three-day clinically focused cardiac ultrasound course, learners will:- Use ultrasound system controls to optimise imaging for accurate diagnosis
- Develop proficiency in probe manipulation to efficiently acquire diagnostic images
- Describe the limitations and clinical integration of focused ultrasound in rapid cardiac assessment
- Use a systematic approach to conduct cardiac ultrasound assessment of a shocked or arrested patient
- Use ultrasound to assess the patient’s fluid status, global function and identify major cause of heart failure
On completion of this three-day clinically focused cardiac ultrasound course, learners will:
- Use ultrasound system controls to optimize imaging for accurate diagnosis in clinical practice
- Demonstrate proficiency in probe manipulation to efficiently acquire and interpret standard cardiac ultrasound views.
- Evaluate cardiac function and identify key abnormalities.
Why cardiac ultrasound matters
Rapid cardiac ultrasound is essential for emergency, intensive care doctors, and anesthetists because it allows for immediate, non-invasive assessment of heart function and structure in critically ill patients. In urgent situations, it provides quick diagnosis of conditions like cardiac tamponade, severe heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction, enabling timely interventions. This tool is invaluable at the bedside, eliminating the need for patient transport to cardiology, which is particularly important for unstable patients. It helps guide treatment decisions, such as fluid management or the need for inotropes and surgical interventions. Additionally, it offers real-time monitoring of cardiac performance, crucial during anesthesia or intensive care. By assessing volume status, clinicians can manage fluid overload or depletion. Rapid cardiac ultrasound enhances decision-making, reduces complications, and improves patient outcomes by quickly identifying life-threatening issues and guiding precise interventions.Key benefits for attendees
Attendees of Zedu's 3-day focused cardiac ultrasound course will benefit from a comprehensive, structured approach to mastering essential cardiac views. With a focus on hands-on learning, participants will gain increased confidence in acquiring accurate views, enhancing their clinical cardiac ultrasound experience. The course emphasizes troubleshooting techniques, ensuring that attendees are equipped with the skills to address common imaging challenges. The practical, step-by-step guidance improves pattern recognition and scanning abilities. The course provides a solid foundation for enhancing cardiac ultrasound skills, boosting proficiency, and accelerating confidence in real-world clinical practice.CME recognition

Frequently Asked Questions
Do any of your courses meet the requirements for CICM trainees?
Yes. Our 3-day Focused Cardiac Ultrasound course and our 1-day Basic Echo in Life Support course are both approved and meet the CICM Focused Cardiac Ultrasound requirements.
Do you scan real people?
Yes we do. We scan real people of all shapes, sizes and ages to develop your practical point of care scanning skills.
What ultrasound systems do you have?
We have a range of point-of-care ultrasound systems commonly used in the critical care setting. We aim to have something similar to what you use daily in your clinical practice. We also have a range of handheld systems to test your point-of-care ultrasound skills. Our aim is that you are comfortable navigating any ultrasound machine you are presented with.
How much hands-on probe time do I get?
Ultrasound is a practical skill, and as such, it is really important to get as much hands-on scanning time as possible. Zedu’s educational activities are designed for small groups that do not exceed four participants per tutor and machine. All of our courses run with at least two-thirds of the time spent hands-on scanning. We ensure that every participant gets an even amount of hands-on scanning time to develop their critical care ultrasound skills.
