Zedu Weekly Wrap – 16 September 2022
School holidays are upon us…
and – having had the longest fully delivered semester in years, we’re all definitely in need of a break! Everyone here will be taking a few well deserved days off, recharging and hanging out with the family. One of the few benefits of running your own shop – and a benefit for the crew – is you get to be flexible in scheduling. But never fear, we’ll be back ready to wield the probes in a few days…try keeping us away.
Highlights this week to check out include a new approach to the eFAST examination (@NagdevArun), a new DRAUP protocol for reducing post CVC CXR from Washington University School of Medicine (@cameron_baston) and we uploaded the recording of our September coaching corner on teaching and communicating the probe moves.
Heading off now for a few days off – but we’ll see you next week.

Get the most out of your teaching moments – join our TRain the UltraSound Trainer (TRUST) course This isn’t a course on how to perform an ultrasound examination or use the technology – it’s designed to give you the teaching tools you’ll need to teach ultrasound on the run. In the words of a previous participant – it’s meta! We’re running this internationally recognised course in Australia for the first time in July and October – don’t miss out.

@SCUFellowships just got to see the wonderfully named DRAUP protocol for reducing post CVC CXR presented. Impressive annual decrease in radiographs by using #pocus https://t.co/DQQrygQKXH

When doing ultrasound guided vascular access procedures it is incorrect to use flash as an indicator of correct needle placement. This strategy frequently leads to failure, especially USGPIVs and radial A-lines. Here's why: 1/x

If you’re just informally teaching #POCUS to residents during clinical practice, you may be causing POCUS overconfidence (A #meded thread and peek at some of my presentation at #MHSRS2022 today) 1/7 pic.twitter.com/9RDzb0rXfT

Reason #653357 why #pocus is important: low sensitivity / low specificity chest x-rays yield imprecise results and sloppy treatment plans.
Take this case of an 81 year old presenting with 3 days of shortness of breath and intermittent cough. Found to be in atrial fib in the ED
