Zedu Weekly Wrap – 13 October 2023
It’s Friday the 13th…
literally the time for Hocus Pocus! Although given we work (mostly) in the dark and are used to unexpected surprises, it takes a lot to spook us 🙂
This week’s news and views to check out include:
- Jeff Gadsden (@jeffgadsden) at DukeU continues with his mega Blocktober 23 effort – be sure to check the content out if regional anaesthesia is your thing
- chek out the piece on the ‘Reliabiilty of POCUS to evaluate fluid tolerance performed by critical care residents’ co-authored with Francisco Javier Garcia Guillén (@Cometin007) (13 October).
Didn’t quite get to uploading the recording of the October Coaching Corner this week – internet issues – it will be up soon (promise) – in the meantime be sure to have a look at the back catalogue here…
See you next week.

Get the most out of your teaching moments – join our TRain the UltraSound Trainer (TRUST) course This isn’t a course on how to perform an ultrasound examination or use the technology – it’s designed to give you the teaching tools you’ll need to teach ultrasound on the run. In the words of a previous participant – it’s meta!

Hey there, it’s the 12th of #Blocktober23 and today I want to discuss my FAVE anesthetic for hip fracture, especially in patients with severe valvular disease, pulmonary hypertension, or other reasons I don’t want to drop their preload too quickly…. @amit_pawa @EMARIANOMD pic.twitter.com/BBUVllJIct

Hellooo! It’s the 10th day of #Blocktober23 and today I want to talk about broken bones…specifically the collarbone. Clavicle fracture is a common injury, and we commonly perform both ISB and cervical plexus blocks for pain control. However… @amit_pawa @EMARIANOMD pic.twitter.com/hSMHp61ggu

It’s the 9th day of #Blocktober23 and today we’re going to share our top TAP tip. The TAP block is usually pretty straightforward, but in larger patients the 3 layers can look more like an 8-layer bean dip. How do you know which is which? @amit_pawa @GongGasGirl @ASRA_Society pic.twitter.com/A410jRUtk7

Ever wonder what makes #pocus guru’s experts? (and why learning POCUS can be so hard???) We analyzed expert and novice probe movements to understand biomechanical differences… its time to go window shopping! 🛍️🛍️🛍️ pic.twitter.com/JuP8B9NhvI

Happy 8th day of #Blocktober23 ! Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! We lurve a good PENG block for all things hips…THA, fracture pain, arthroscopy…well, you get the point. But, we often see trainees struggling with achieving the correct view of the bony anatomy… pic.twitter.com/ETnBwkSgE7

Hey-o! It’s the 7th day of #Blocktober23 and today I want to share and talk about tips for placing (and maintaining) perineural catheters. Catheters are amazing ways to extend your block duration, but can be fiddly to place and intimidating to place. @amit_pawa @GongGasGirl pic.twitter.com/XITzSwg7ut

It’s Friday, the 6th of #Blocktober ! Time to have a little fun. It’s been pointed out to me that I apparently use a lot of food analogies in my teaching?? Maybe I should track that with time of day & hunger levels? @ASRA_Society @amit_pawa @GongGasGirl pic.twitter.com/cFUQFaraW0
