Zedu Weekly Wrap – 19 May 2023
Winter has definitely arrived here…
making taking Barney for a walk in the mornings funny. Ever seen a dog tip toe? We think he may need socks!
Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean it’s not running hot here at ZeduHQ. The past few weeks have been hectic – between obstetric, emergency and anaesthesia TRUST courses there hasn’t been a day where the gel hasn’t been flying. All great fun.
There’s some hot resources too in our weekly wrap. Ergonomics is an oft overlooked component in ultrasound use – regardless the specialty. @ResaELewiss addresses this in the latest @POCUSJournal. Check out the latest fascinating research from local Arun Sett (@ArunSett) ‘Estimating Preterm Lung Volume: A Comparison of Lung Ultrasound, Chest Radiography, and Oxygenation’, and a nice video from Amit Pawa (@amit_pawa) on whether Dr Goodle can teach us regioal anaesthesia. This and heaps more to warm yourself by the fire with…
That’s all folks – off to find some socks for the dog…
See you next week…
Suean and Mike
P.S. Get the most out of your teaching moments – join our TRain the UltraSound Trainer (TRUST) course This isn’t a course on how to perform an ultrasound examination or use the technology – it’s designed to give you the teaching tools you’ll need to teach ultrasound on the run. In the words of a previous participant – it’s meta!

Just found this gem in an old slide set from #TRUST with @zedunow back in '19. Was inspired by a fab @aliteplo talk given in 2016 @WINFOCUS, but adapted for the inpatient hospital with shared rooms env. But poor EM folks now would have to add all the hall beds, boarders & such ๐ pic.twitter.com/IMeGl3pTFE

๐งซ Ventilator associated tracheobronchitis & pneumonia share same acquisition pattern: pathogen colonizes proximal & progresses to deeper airways = VAT, until local defences overwhelmed, alveolar damage & infection = VAP. Term "VA-LRTI" could simplify??
