Zedu Weekly Wrap – 27 January 2023
January is already over…
Australia Day weekend is here, and so next week will see the world awaken and the real work begin. We’ve been busy here at Zedu HQ working on some cool ideas across a range of specialties – always something happening. At least we have electricity to keep the lights on now 🙂 Also had fun this week talking to Michael Prats (@PratsEM) for his next US G.E.L. podcast – watch this space.
Highlights from this week include a piece in Nature (@Nature) on wearable ultrasound technology that allows for dynamic monitoring of cardiac performance, a piece in @BJAJournals comparing biplanar versus conventional two-dimensional ultrasound guidance for radial artery catheterisation, and from the American Society of Echocardiography (@ASE360) Recommendations for Cardiac Point-of-Care Ultrasound in Children: A Report from the American Society of Echocardiography.
PLUS…be sure to tune into us on Spotify – we have an ultrasound playlist that should keep your POCUS rocking!
Tuning out ourselves now.
See you next week.

Optimising your echo windows:
Do you stop when you get something vaguely like what you think it should look like? Or do you try and find something better every time?
I’m forever telling my trainees “have you tried a rib space lower?” In apical 4 chamber.
Here’s why: 🧵

We wondered what #ultrasound as interpreted by the masters would look like
We have Van Gogh, Picasso, DaVinci, Lichtenstein, Warhol

Clinicians now use ultrasound to diagnose pneumonia, cirrhosis, detached retinas, bowel obstructions, and aortic dissection, among other problems. Soon, the instrument may be more ubiquitous than the stethoscope.https://t.co/8g5vv4F6iM

What a lovely review! This is exactly how I was trained to do PTAs. I’ve heard of more folks deferring I&D nowadays with the studies you cited. Any insight into when you’d def recommend drain based on literature?

We are pleased to open up registration for our next #POCUS club. It will be on 14th Feb 23 from 1500-1600hrs UK time.
