Zedu Weekly Wrap – 3 June 2022
What a fun week we had…
with the Australasian Sonographers Association conference reawakening the face-to-face conference scene in Melbourne. It was so amazing to catch up with so many friends and colleagues after over two years of being stuck behind heavily santised keyboards and monitors. What did become startlingly obvious as we got out and about were are the many challenges (both covid and non-covid related) that are facing sonographers over the next couple of years. It will be interesting to see how we all adapt to meet the many demands being placed on us all.
Highlights to check out this week are Dan Kims POCUS in resuscitation resources, the cardiac cases from the team at MH Ultrasound and a great thread from Josh Guttman. And for anyone that gives presentations – in any form – take a look at the awesome tips and tricks from Tessa Davis – your students/audience will love you for it.
See you next week.
Mike and Suean
P.S. – Suean’s Coaching Corner last night on the tips and tricks of remote ultrasound coaching will be up soon. Check out the back catalogue of previous episodes – from testicular torsion to cardiac scanning and everything in between – here.
If you’re a sonographer thinking about becoming a SEED – or a potential employer trying to understand what it takes to make the transition – take a look at our TRain the UltraSound Trainer (TRUST) course designed specifically to give you the teaching tools you’ll need to teach ultrasound on the run. We’re running this internationally recognised course in Australia for the first time in July and October – don’t miss out.

The hallway SOBs
Twas a busy evening in the ED. I was coming out of the ressusc bay and I see 3 patients with the CC of "shortness of breath" all placed in hallway beds. X-rays were ordered already but X-ray is backed up. A resident has already seen 2 of the patients.— Josh Guttman (@drjgutt) June 2, 2022

#Ultrasound in critical care patient management. Key issues for reflection:
➡️ defining competencies in CCUS
➡️ training the intensivists
➡️ outcomes & future

#POCUS: useful to manage airway (eg assisting percutaneous dilatation tracheostomy) in #CU? maybe not core skill but important in clinical care!

Normal vs Fatty Liver (hepatic steatosis) side by side. You can see the fatty liver is more echogenic(brighter) with more attenuation of the soundwaves. Grading can be done as mild, moderate and severe (I, II, III) pic.twitter.com/O2Eu6YCYjx
